NOTABLE NEW CANAAN

New Canaan, where do I start. I grew up here, and somehow found my way back, after moving away. This town has a magnetic pull - it's charm, community, shopping, schools and dining, all make it the perfect mecca of culture, exclusivity and style.

If you think of the quintessential New England town, that's New Canaan, but better. The town is lined with updated colonials, European manors, Georgian estates, capes, and new builds on both modest, town centric lots and sprawling acres of land. The downtown rivals that of neighboring Westport, Greenwich, and Darien, but with a community vibe that simply cannot be replicated. Once you move here, you are automatically part of an unspoken 'club'. To boot? The dinning and shopping holds up to some of the best NYC establishments.

With everything from Sushi to Peruvian to Upscale American to Indian to 'clean' eating - we have it all. Truly. My favorite restaurant in town has to be South End. Its cuisine is a seasonal upscale comfort food, and my favorite dishes are the Barbecued Octopus and Spicy Tuna Poke. My go-to 'clean eating'/lunch spot is EMBODY. I go with the Almond Buzz or Twisted Green, every time. Their acai bowls are also scrumptious.

When it comes to shopping, there is a mix of well-known brands, such as Ralph Lauren, Vineyard Vines, New Balance, J Crew, Ann Taylor, Blue Mercury, Space NK and Benefit, in addition to local boutiques stocked with the best that beauty and style has to offer - Sara Campbell, Caren Forbes, Togs, She La La, Family Britches, Shoes N' More, Penny Weights and much more. You can find something for everyone's taste, and at any price point. My favorites? Caren Forbes is great for finding unique, budget-friendly pieces that are in line with the latest trends, Blue Mercury is my local one-stop shop for all things skincare, and J Crew is a must-stop - they always have something I 'need'.

Now for the biggest perk - the schools. New Canaan Public Schools are some of the best in the country. Why send your children to pricey privates, when they can excel in a free school system? Seems like a no-brainer to me. The athletic programs are also extremely strong - with both Football and Lacrosse dominating Fairfield County.

New Canaan also has a lot to do. There is Waveny Park, New Canaan Winter Club, Grace Farms, and The Glass House, to name a few.

Our town may be small, but it definitely packs a lot of punch. With NYC 50 minutes south, it's the best of both worlds. What are you waiting for? Explore New Canaan, today!
